In the Southern Tier, a notable political figure is considering a run for the state Senate, one day after State Senator Fred Akshar announced his bid for Broome County Sheriff.
Binghamton Mayor Rich David is launching an exploratory committee to advise him about running for the 52nd Senate District.
David has led the Parlor City for the last seven years, but won't able to run for re-election due to term limits.
The exploratory committee will begin meeting with community leaders and people from around the district.
Mayor David expects to make a formal announcement in the next couple of weeks.
